Performance Benchmarking of Cloud Native Storage – Alex Chircop, StorageOS
Benchmarking storage is fiendishly difficult. In this talk we will discuss the concepts, commonly user tools and test criteria and the common pitfalls that are often encountered. Will will also focus on some of the other attributes of a storage system like consistency, availability and data protection, and their impact on performance.
Alex is a founder and CTO of StorageOS (https://storageos.com), building software defined solutions for cloud native environments. Alex is also a co-chair of the CNCF Storage SIG (https://github.com/cncf/sig-storage). Before embarking on the startup adventure he spent over 25 years engineering infrastructure platforms for companies like Nomura and Goldman Sachs.
Data Management Strategy for Cross Cloud Application Migration – Prasenjit Sarkar, Oracle
Containers in general and Kubernetes were created not only to best orchestrate your microservices but also allow you for application portability across on-premise VMs, bare metal or cross cloud environments. However, there are constraints such as storage, private image repository, etc. that eliminate application portability and hinder the joy of break free from “lock-in”. In this session, you will witness the best practices for “Data Management” in a Kubernetes environment. This session will cover how you can put together a data management strategy focusing on protection and mobility to migrate a stateful containerized app from one cloud provider to another and how Kubernetes objects, such as persistent volumes, ingress rules, and services, can be used to abstract from the infrastructure.
Prow-gressing To Better CI (Although Not Quite As Planned) – Joel Speed, Pusher
This year, we have introduced a new CI system at Pusher, Prow, the CI system build by the Kubernetes community for testing Kubernetes. In this talk Joel will discuss the motivation for looking for a new CI solution, why we chose Prow over other CI solutions, the journey as we planned it and the journey as it actually unfolded.
Joel (@JoelASpeed) has been a Cloud Infrastructure Engineer at Pusher for over 2 years. He has spent this time helping them to build their internal Kubernetes based platform and during this time has been an active member of the open source community, contributing to many Kubernetes projects and also maintaining a number of Pusher’s Open Source projects including the OAuth2 Proxy.
