Data Science in Real Life: March Talks @ The Zebra
March 2 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm
This event is part of our “Data Science in Real Life” speaker series, where we feature local data scientists telling stories of how they applied Data Science to real-world problems.
We are partnering with The Zebra as our event host and sponsor. Their new space is amazing, and we thank them for their support of this Meetup and the Austin Data Science community.
Dave Sullivan – Data Science in SQL. Because, Why Not?
A presentation that nobody asked for on how to perform data science in pure SQL. You should not do any of the things I’m going to present to you… but you definitely can, and I know you want to. Note that intermediate to advanced SQL knowledge is assumed and all algorithms are written for and tested on Snowflake SQL, but many of the techniques can be used in any SQL implementation.
Dr. Steve Kramer – A Physicist’s Journey from Chaos Theory to Disinformation Research and AI.
In this talk, Steve will discuss his data science work in network graph analysis, natural language processing, anomaly detection, bot/cyborg detection, and disinformation research with examples from extremist web forums, the Enron email dataset, and Twitter analyses related to the US midterm elections in 2018 and the recent Coronavirus outbreak in 2020.
Dave Sullivan is a Data Scientist at Yonder where he develops tools for detecting online influence operations at scale, utilizing network analysis, language embedding spaces, image processing, and other techniques. While at Yonder, Dave collaborated on a report for the United States Senate Select Committee on Intelligence on ways Russian state-sponsored disinformation influenced the 2016 presidential election.
Dr. Steve Kramer is a computational physicist and data science entrepreneur with 27+ years of post-PhD experience in data science, research, software, and business management. As of January 2020, Steve is the Chief Scientist at KUNGFU.AI, an artificial intelligence services agency that helps clients start and accelerate advanced data science programs by providing strategy, development, and transformation services.
