Presentation: Pixels & Points: Raster Exploration, LIDAR Conversions, and 3D Graphics

Many US agencies and local governments provide open GIS data products in the form of raster and LIDAR. This data is often provided in the form of raster files and, more recently, as LIDAR data. These data sets can be used to analyze health of vegetation, understand water systems, and even examine physical changes in both rural and urban regions. This talk will serve as a gentle introduction on some fundamental operations needed to work with raster imagery and LIDAR data.

This presentation will primarily be accessible to beginners and intermediates. This talk will not focus on code, but on fundamental concepts with regards to raster images. However, code snippets will be shown throughout he talk and RMarkdown files will be provided to those who are interested in digging deeper into the material.

Benjamin Ortiz Ulloa is a data visualization specialist at Accenture Federal Services. He is an R enthusiast and is interested in complex systems.

Food will be provided and we will have a free book raffle.
