Workshop on Bootstrap Methods
March 30 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Venue Capacity: 30 people
The capacity of the venue is about 30 people but because of no-shows, we have a policy of first-come, first-served on the night in the event of the room filling up. Managing no-shows is a problem all Meetups have to deal with and this is the fairest method we can think of. While we have never been in a position to turn anyone away for capacity reasons, it is always a possibility, so please arrive early to avoid disappointment on the night. We have the upstairs room booked from[masked] so if the room is in use till that time, we will gather in the bar below beforehand.
This workshop is contained in the ws_bootstrap_202002/ folder
This is the second in a series of workshops on the Bootstrap – a method for estimating the uncertainty in values due to sample error.
The bootstrap is a straightforward technique with subtle issues and can be used in a variety of situation.
In this workshop we continue our discussion on the application of the bootstrap for measuring our uncertainty in estimating various statistical summaries of data, showing how extreme values are often prone to large amounts of sampling noise, and how we can extend the concepts to multivariate concepts such as correlation.
